What's In My Baby's Hospital Bag...

what's in my hospital bag, what's in my baby's hospital bag, Babymel Lily Oyster Changing Bag, Naty Nappies

One of my favourite projects throughout the last couple of months has been packing our hospital bags, it has made me realise just how far we have come and just how close to the end we finally are. I have spent countless hours reading books, scouring blog posts and watching Youtube videos on the subject because I was so desperate to get it right, but I soon figured out there isn't really a right way to pack your bags. With every hospital giving out a different list and everyone having their own ideas of what to pack, everyone's hospital bags are bound to be a little different. So I did my research and packed my bags with a combination of ideas from a ton of different sources, making sure I have the things I feel I need and want, without over packing, these bags really don't require the kitchen sink and 20 lipsticks.

Our bags have been packed for a few weeks now so I thought it was finally time to share with you what I decided to pack in baby girl's bag, i'll share mine next week but i'm sharing baby girl's first as it is far more interesting and prettier than mine...

I knew that I wanted to use baby girl's changing bag for the hospital as I wanted to take separate bags for us both, this way it will save a lot of time and confusion when I'm asking Dan to pass me something for one of us and it will be a lot easier for myself too, rummaging around for ages whilst in labour will be the last thing I need.

Choosing a changing bag was a pretty tough decision, there are so many great brands out there with great reputations and I finally narrowed it down to Storksak, Pink Lining and Babymel. I wanted something practical yet stylish and I finally settled on the Babymel Lily Oyster from a website called Natural Baby Shower as it was completely my style, has more than enough pockets/compartments, comes with a changing mat and bottle warmer and they had a discount on at the time I purchased it too. I did have to pack everything I wanted in here tightly as it's not a huge bag and I had quite a few things to pack in, but I'm well known for my 'Mary Poppins bags' so I managed to get them all in neatly, I just hope they withstand creasing.

Here's what I packed in it...

Babygrows, Sleepsuits, Vests, Cardigans

3 Hats (1 to go home in)
5 vests (1 to go home in)
5 sleepsuits (1 to go home in)
 2 cardigans

Five vests and sleepsuits sounds like quite a lot compared to most of the lists I've seen but this was the number recommended on my list from the hospital. I decided to pack a mixture of newborn and 0-3 sleepsuits as you can never guaruntee baby's birth weight and I set aside the top one with matching hat to bring her home in.

Muslin cloths, Cellular Blanket, Teddy, Mitts, Socks

3 Muslin cloths
1 Cellular Blanket
3 Pairs of Scratch Mitts
 3 Pairs of Socks
 1 Teddy

Ok, I hold my hands up, I'm obsessed with Muslin cloths! They're the perfect multi-use product, they're great for burping, cleaning up sick and dribble aswell as using in place of a blanket, changing mat etc if you forget to take one out, so I just had to put a few in, you know, for all those reasons and more. I also put in this cute Cellular blanket from Clair De Lune as the hospital recommend you pack one and with the weather being so warm and muggy right now, I thought this would be perfect as the holes allow for better ventilation, preventing her from getting too hot. This cute bunny teddy from Mothercare is one that my sister bought for her, it's quite small so will be the perfect size for her and will be lovely to have in her first photos.

Naty Nappies, Water Wipes, Nappy Sacks, Cotton Wool

1 pack of Water Wipes
1 pack of Naty Size 1 Newborn Nappies
1 pack of Johnsons Baby Cotton Pads
1 pack of Boots Degradable Nappy Sacks

When I first found out I was pregnant, I assumed I would just use the usual branded nappies that my family and friends have always used such as Pampers but when reading all those little magazines you are given in your pregnancy packs, I came across an advert for Naty nappies and my natural obsession kind of started there.

Naty By Nature are a Swedish company who offer natural choices for environmentally aware parents. Their nappies are made from natural and renewable material, are chlorine free, fragrance free, latex free, hypoallergenic, naturally breathable and 70% biodegradable. They do tend to be more expensive than other nappies overall but the difference is only small change, the newborn nappies however are fraction cheaper, Naty Nature Babycare Nappies in size 1 are £4.29 for 26 in Boots and Pampers New Baby Sensitive Nappies in size 1 are £4.75 for 23 so to me, it made sense to start with something more natural, eco-friendly and kinder on the skin whilst she's newborn, especially when they are cheaper.

The majority of people that use Naty nappies also seem to use Water Wipes because again these are kinder on newborn skin, with the only ingredients being 99.9% purified water and 0.1% fruit extract.  It didn't make sense to me to use wipes full of nasty ingredients when using skin-friendly nappies and from plenty of research it seem's that using these two together is great for those little bums, as most people have found that  their babies don't get sore bums, nappy rash or any skin irritation whatsoever so that should hopefully result in a much happier baby. These are a lot more expensive than other branded wipes but Boots had an amazing deal on making them cheaper than most brands, unfortunately the offer is no longer on but Amazon have great offers on them all the time.

This isn't to say that I won't go onto using other brands if I run out or they simply don't suit baby as well as I wanted them to, but giving baby a better start from the very beginning with her skin, to reduce the possibility of skin conditions, is all I can hope for!

What did you pack in your hospital bag?

Review | Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro 1 Palette...

Makeup Revolution are well known for their dupes of some of the most sought after high end products at a much more affordable price with some of the most popular of their products being dupes of high end brands such as Benefit, Lorac and Too Faced. I have to admit, I wasn't sure about the brand at first, their products seemed too good to be true and I honestly thought they were just cheap copycats, however after seeing so many people raving about the products, I turned to Youtube to see the products in action and see what all the fuss was about. With so many makeup tutorials out there, I soon got lost, spending hours watching them until I finally caved and made an online order after being well and truly convinced.

Since becoming pregnant, I have become obsessed with a new kind of shopping... baby shopping! I spend far too much time on Instagram searching every pregnancy related hashtag possible and searching for independent gift shops where I can find unique pieces. One of my favourite shops that I have come across since being pregnant is Lucy and Belle, a one-stop shop for luxury baby gifts and accessories at affordable prices.
