My Labour and Birth Story...

I have attempted to write this blog post so many times since Emme was born but with a new baby and with her, a new way of life, I just haven't managed to get around to it, until now. I have written paragraphs here and there whilst Emme has napped or I've woken up at 3am, pregnancy habit continued, but most of it is pretty hazy to me and it really is hard to put it all into words. So tonight I've sent Dan to bed with Emme so that I can have a little me time and finally try to share my labour and delivery story with you lovely people!

Pregnancy Post | 38 Week Pregnancy Update...

Today I am 38 weeks + 4 days pregnant and I am so ready for baby girl to arrive! This post is up a tad late so I do apologise, my cousin is over from America and I've been enjoying the sun with my family, always better late than never right?!...

What's In My Baby's Hospital Bag...

what's in my hospital bag, what's in my baby's hospital bag, Babymel Lily Oyster Changing Bag, Naty Nappies

One of my favourite projects throughout the last couple of months has been packing our hospital bags, it has made me realise just how far we have come and just how close to the end we finally are. I have spent countless hours reading books, scouring blog posts and watching Youtube videos on the subject because I was so desperate to get it right, but I soon figured out there isn't really a right way to pack your bags. With every hospital giving out a different list and everyone having their own ideas of what to pack, everyone's hospital bags are bound to be a little different. So I did my research and packed my bags with a combination of ideas from a ton of different sources, making sure I have the things I feel I need and want, without over packing, these bags really don't require the kitchen sink and 20 lipsticks.

Our bags have been packed for a few weeks now so I thought it was finally time to share with you what I decided to pack in baby girl's bag, i'll share mine next week but i'm sharing baby girl's first as it is far more interesting and prettier than mine...

I knew that I wanted to use baby girl's changing bag for the hospital as I wanted to take separate bags for us both, this way it will save a lot of time and confusion when I'm asking Dan to pass me something for one of us and it will be a lot easier for myself too, rummaging around for ages whilst in labour will be the last thing I need.

Choosing a changing bag was a pretty tough decision, there are so many great brands out there with great reputations and I finally narrowed it down to Storksak, Pink Lining and Babymel. I wanted something practical yet stylish and I finally settled on the Babymel Lily Oyster from a website called Natural Baby Shower as it was completely my style, has more than enough pockets/compartments, comes with a changing mat and bottle warmer and they had a discount on at the time I purchased it too. I did have to pack everything I wanted in here tightly as it's not a huge bag and I had quite a few things to pack in, but I'm well known for my 'Mary Poppins bags' so I managed to get them all in neatly, I just hope they withstand creasing.

Here's what I packed in it...

Babygrows, Sleepsuits, Vests, Cardigans

3 Hats (1 to go home in)
5 vests (1 to go home in)
5 sleepsuits (1 to go home in)
 2 cardigans

Five vests and sleepsuits sounds like quite a lot compared to most of the lists I've seen but this was the number recommended on my list from the hospital. I decided to pack a mixture of newborn and 0-3 sleepsuits as you can never guaruntee baby's birth weight and I set aside the top one with matching hat to bring her home in.

Muslin cloths, Cellular Blanket, Teddy, Mitts, Socks

3 Muslin cloths
1 Cellular Blanket
3 Pairs of Scratch Mitts
 3 Pairs of Socks
 1 Teddy

Ok, I hold my hands up, I'm obsessed with Muslin cloths! They're the perfect multi-use product, they're great for burping, cleaning up sick and dribble aswell as using in place of a blanket, changing mat etc if you forget to take one out, so I just had to put a few in, you know, for all those reasons and more. I also put in this cute Cellular blanket from Clair De Lune as the hospital recommend you pack one and with the weather being so warm and muggy right now, I thought this would be perfect as the holes allow for better ventilation, preventing her from getting too hot. This cute bunny teddy from Mothercare is one that my sister bought for her, it's quite small so will be the perfect size for her and will be lovely to have in her first photos.

Naty Nappies, Water Wipes, Nappy Sacks, Cotton Wool

1 pack of Water Wipes
1 pack of Naty Size 1 Newborn Nappies
1 pack of Johnsons Baby Cotton Pads
1 pack of Boots Degradable Nappy Sacks

When I first found out I was pregnant, I assumed I would just use the usual branded nappies that my family and friends have always used such as Pampers but when reading all those little magazines you are given in your pregnancy packs, I came across an advert for Naty nappies and my natural obsession kind of started there.

Naty By Nature are a Swedish company who offer natural choices for environmentally aware parents. Their nappies are made from natural and renewable material, are chlorine free, fragrance free, latex free, hypoallergenic, naturally breathable and 70% biodegradable. They do tend to be more expensive than other nappies overall but the difference is only small change, the newborn nappies however are fraction cheaper, Naty Nature Babycare Nappies in size 1 are £4.29 for 26 in Boots and Pampers New Baby Sensitive Nappies in size 1 are £4.75 for 23 so to me, it made sense to start with something more natural, eco-friendly and kinder on the skin whilst she's newborn, especially when they are cheaper.

The majority of people that use Naty nappies also seem to use Water Wipes because again these are kinder on newborn skin, with the only ingredients being 99.9% purified water and 0.1% fruit extract.  It didn't make sense to me to use wipes full of nasty ingredients when using skin-friendly nappies and from plenty of research it seem's that using these two together is great for those little bums, as most people have found that  their babies don't get sore bums, nappy rash or any skin irritation whatsoever so that should hopefully result in a much happier baby. These are a lot more expensive than other branded wipes but Boots had an amazing deal on making them cheaper than most brands, unfortunately the offer is no longer on but Amazon have great offers on them all the time.

This isn't to say that I won't go onto using other brands if I run out or they simply don't suit baby as well as I wanted them to, but giving baby a better start from the very beginning with her skin, to reduce the possibility of skin conditions, is all I can hope for!

What did you pack in your hospital bag?

Review | Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro 1 Palette...

Makeup Revolution are well known for their dupes of some of the most sought after high end products at a much more affordable price with some of the most popular of their products being dupes of high end brands such as Benefit, Lorac and Too Faced. I have to admit, I wasn't sure about the brand at first, their products seemed too good to be true and I honestly thought they were just cheap copycats, however after seeing so many people raving about the products, I turned to Youtube to see the products in action and see what all the fuss was about. With so many makeup tutorials out there, I soon got lost, spending hours watching them until I finally caved and made an online order after being well and truly convinced.

Lucy and Belle Wishlist...

Lucy and Belle Wishlist...

Last week I wrote a post on one of my favourite online shops for baby gifts - Lucy and Belle and I mentioned how I've been compiling a wishlist for the store ever since I discovered it, so this week I thought I would share it with you as they have the most adorable gifts.

Lucy and Belle | Bea Legami Preziosi My Joy Bracelet...

Since becoming pregnant, I have become obsessed with a new kind of shopping... baby shopping! I spend far too much time on Instagram searching every pregnancy related hashtag possible and searching for independent gift shops where I can find unique pieces. One of my favourite shops that I have come across since being pregnant is Lucy and Belle, a one-stop shop for luxury baby gifts and accessories at affordable prices.

Nursery Haul Ft Achica...

Achica Haul, Cloud B Sleep Sheep, Clair De Lune, Pababo Night Light,

Achica is one of those online websites that soon becomes addictive to browse, they describe themselves as a 'members-only, online lifestyle store offering desirable brands at exceptional prices.' Signing up is free and on doing so you can choose whether to receive a daily or weekly email giving you access to exclusive promotions ahead of everyone else. Working with various different brands, Achica offer a wide range of products from beauty to baby clothes, furniture and so much more at up to 70% off RRP. Unlike other online stores, Achica's offers and promotions are constantly changing, with new promotions launching daily at 6.30am, so if you see something you want, you have to be quick. So I'm sure you can imagine the struggle I had in choosing something when Achica so kindly offered me a voucher to spend at their online store! There were so many things I could have chosen but having recently decorated our baby girl's nursery, I decided to chose a few items to go in there.

M&Co Maternity Style ft Heavenly Bump Floral Print Tea Dress...

Shopping for Maternity wear hasn't been easy for me throughout my pregnancy, it turns out most shops think that pregnant ladies are all of average height and Maternity wear for tall ladies that is affordable is definitely a gap in the market! I always find that no jeans are ever long enough and every dress is far too short, so I practically live in leggings, vest tops and kimonos day in, day out. So as I'm sure you can imagine, when it comes to going out for the day or the evening, finding something to wear is always a major task therefore when I was asked to take part in a Maternity Spring Style challenge for M&Co I wasn't sure if I would be able to take it on.

I'm sure you've all heard of Argan Oil right?! If not, where have you been?! Argan oil has been big on the beauty scene for so long now with the oil being used in everything from haircare to skincare products and of course in it's purest form too, but have you heard of Marula oil?

Baby Girl Clothing Haul #1 ...

baby haul

One of my favourite posts to read on blogs are hauls, be it food, fashion or beauty and recently I've been looking to blogs for baby hauls, I've actually found it hard to find many pregnancy blogs, especially ones that feature hauls, so if you read any good ones, please leave me recommendations in the comments, I would be very grateful!

Friday Blog Update...

Hi lovelies, I hope you are all well and are finally getting that Friday feeling!

Today I am off to get my haircut for the first time in nearly two years, I know, it's terrible! But I cannot wait to finally change my hairstyle and be pampered! This weekend it's my birthday so me and Dan are going out for lunch on Saturday and then my family will be visiting in the afternoon, then on Sunday Dan is playing in a charity football match raising money for Cancer Research UK so I will be getting up bright and early to go and support him and his team.

I just wanted to give you a little update on my blog right now as things have changed lately and I want to know your thoughts...

Since becoming pregnant, a lot has changed in my life, as I'm sure you can imagine and I no longer spend all of my money on myself and makeup products, as much as I still have wish lists as long as my arm and love buying the latest product, I also love spending any spare money I have on my little girl, it makes me just as happy to buy her a gorgeous dress as it does buying myself the latest lipstick. Of course with this little lady becoming a huge part of my life, I have started to post Instagram pictures of the things I cannot resist buying her and I have done the odd pregnancy post too, however with this I have noticed that I have lost followers on both my Instagram and my blog but I have also gained some lovely new followers too. Of course this was going to happen, as not everyone is interested in pregnancy and baby hauls so I do apologise to those of you who aren't so interested in my latest topic but I promise I am still trying to write as many beauty posts as possible because I still love to write about beauty now as much as I always have done. I also want to say thank you to those of you who have stuck by me so far and who are supporting me throughout my pregnancy, asking how me and my little lady are and reading my posts, I am so grateful to you for that and love sharing this amazing life experience with you all.

Even though this is a big change for my blog, I do want to start writing more pregnancy and baby posts throughout my pregnancy and possibly even afterwards too, as I love to read these kinds of posts myself and I do find a lot of inspiration with each new item I buy and each new article I read, so why not share it with you guys too?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the recent changes over here? Are you interested in more pregnancy posts and baby hauls? Or do you prefer my beauty posts?

Have a lovely weekend

Love

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek To Chic Swish & Pop Blusher in Love Glow...

Charlotte Tilbury, Blusher, Love glow

Oh Charlotte Tilbury, you really do know how to make a girl Happy!

For me, Charlotte Tilbury is one of those high end makeup brands that just oozes luxury and I always have at least one item from the collection on my birthday/christmas/wish list. It's the kind of brand that I know I will never own the entire collection of but that I get so excited over whenever another item is on it's way to me. The packaging is every girls dream, encased in a gorgeous sleek brown compact with rose gold detailing, the packaging really does look picture perfect and it screams glamour, with this blusher in particular also having quite a vintage, classic feel to it.

Pregnancy Post | Anomaly Scan and Gender Reveal...

boy or girl

On Tuesday, at 20 weeks and 4 days pregnant, we attended our anomoly scan. All the way through my pregnancy I have been fairly relaxed about everything with just the odd worry here and there,  I had already had three scans at 5 weeks, 7 weeks and 13 weeks but for each one I didn't really give them too much of a thought, I just didn't really worry. Whether I had bonded with baby more come this scan or what I'm not sure but I have never been so nervous about something in my life! The night before I was so so excited but at the same time so nervous, I barely slept all night, waking every hour or so, I just couldn't stop thinking about how the scan would go, after all this has to be the biggest scan throughout pregnancy, with the anomoly scan checking that baby has everything in place, whether or not everything is the correct size and if everything is functioning as it should.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara...

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara Wand

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara £19.50

Benefit's They're Real Mascara has been 'the no.1 selling Mascara Product in the UK for the last 2 years' but I have a feeling its about to be knocked off the top spot with their latest release, Roller Lash Mascara. Designed to grab lashes whilst lifting and curling them using the 'hook 'n' roll' brush, this mascara promises big things!

My Perfect Primer Duo...

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer and Urban Decay Primer Potion

I used to apply my makeup without even a thought about prepping my face first, I had no idea just how much difference a primer could make to the appearance and longevity of my makeup, but then again, that's because I didn't know a whole lot about makeup at all.

My Top Red Lip Picks for Valentines Day...

Red Lipsticks

Whatever your plans are, there is always that one thing that is guaranteed to make you feel special and for me, there is nothing like a red lipstick to make me feel amazing on the day!

January Favourites...

Well hello February! You crept up sneakily fast!

So i'm finally back with my monthly favourites posts, it has been way too long and I have actually missed doing these posts, so I though what better month to start it than the first of the year?! With how fast last month went, I'm surprised I had the time to even find any favourites but my January favourites are actually all new finds this time around and I pretty much fell in love with each of them upon first use!

MAC Lip Combo | Brave Lipstick & Staunchly Stylish Lip Pencil...

Whether your a big fan of the Kardashian-Jenner family or you absolutely loathe them and their reality TV show, I can almost guarantee the majority of the female population are still lusting after Kylie's nude lip combo! Since the debut of her latest look, showing fuller looking lips, some have speculated that the youngest K has had work done, while others think it's simply down to the art of makeup, either way, MAC have sold out of plenty of nude lipsticks and lip pencils along the way, after her makeup artist revealed that he loves using Mac lip Pencils on Kylie.

Illamasqua Multi Facet Palette | Aura...

I adore makeup palettes, anything that makes my makeup quicker and easier just lately is a must have for me and this one will be perfect for when baby arrives. The thing is, I'm more likely to use a palette than multiple individual products as they're all in one place and are easily accessible which is perfect for everyday makeup and those times when i don't have the time to experiment.

Recipe | Chocolate Orange Cupcakes...

Every now and again, when I want a treat, cake is the only thing that will cut it! On Wednesday I was in a productive mood, I cleaned right through the house, went to visit family, cooked a nice meal and the cupcake 'need' appeared, so whilst I had the energy, I decided to bake some cupcakes. I posted a picture on Instagram as soon as they were ready and I got some great feedback on them so I thought, why not share the recipe?! Let's face it, when you see something that someone's made and you fancy it too, you usually want to know the recipe, or maybe that's just me... This was actually a recipe I found on GoodFood posted by one of their lovely members and boy, did she do good with this recipe!

My First Trimester...

So I'm sure your all aware by now that me and Dan are having our first baby! If you didn't know, SURPRISE!!! In my last post, I asked if you'd like to see some baby related posts and quite a few of you said yes, so I thought it would be fun to include a few posts here and there. Now I haven't written these types of posts before, obviously, so I'm not sure how I'll do but I'm going to give it a go anyway as it will be nice for us to look back on in the future.

Budget Beauty | Makeup Gallery...

With big commitments and changes this year, we have a lot more money going out and a lot less coming in, meaning those expensive beauty products I have become oh so familiar with in the past few years are about to become a thing of the past, or limited to luxury at least. With this in mind, I decided to take a look at some budget beauty, after all, beauty guru Sally Hughes once said 'A good quality brush will make cheap eye shadow go on like silk and allow Superdrug blusher to pass for Dior.' Now I may have gone to the complete extreme end of 'budget beauty' but I wanted to see whether I really do need to spend the prices I do on makeup for it to actually look good or whether some budget brands may have their own hidden gems.

New Year, New Start...

Image: Tumblr

At the end of 2014 me and Dan had some pretty big life changes, we bought our first house, I was made redundant and we found out that we are expecting our first little baba! So where my New Years resolutions are usually to do with my health, fitness and career aspirations, this year, they are similar, but with a twist...

1. Become Healthier...

So if you missed the statement above, nah I didn't think you had, myself and Dan are expecting our first little baba this July! If anyone would like me to do any pregnancy related posts, please do let me know, I may do a few and some posts may include some baby related content but I'm not going to overtake my beauty blog with baby stuff completely, don't worry.

Being pregnant means that exercise isn't the top of my list this year, however being healthier is! With Dan working shifts, we often don't get to eat together, which usually results in me sat on the sofa with crisps and chocolate, munching, to avoid actually cooking for one, it's just not the same!  I aim to plan and prep more meals so that all three of us can eat healthily and get the nutrients and vitamins we all need. I've already bought a juicer so that I can prep and freeze a batch each week and I plan to purchase a slow cooker so that I can makes stews and casseroles, that way I can prep in a morning before doing house work etc and both me and Dan can eat a nutritious meal, even if we eat it hours apart.

2. Enjoy My Pregnancy...

So far I have already had 3 scans and I'm only 14 weeks pregnant, I've had a few worries but now I'm past the 12 week mark, I would love to just enjoy it! It's so easy to worry about every ache and pain, especially when the odds are against me, however I need to stop the worrying and appreciate this amazing milestone in our lives, after all this is my first baby and I don't want to be wrapping it up in cotton wool before it's even here.

3.Document the hell out of 2015...

With the house and the baby, this would be the perfect year to document till my hearts content! I've always wanted to do Project Life and after Lily Pebbles revealed hers at the beginning of this year, I'm sure you've all seen and heard plenty about it, if you hadn't already. I actually discovered it a couple of years ago, but it is a pretty expensive 'hobby' and I could only lust after all the ideas and images but with the hype surrounding Lily's I too got sucked back in and thought what better year to do it than this year? It will be a nice keepsake, especially to show the baby when he/she is older and will be nice for me and Dan to look back on in years to come.

I want to document my pregnancy, now that I'm starting to show, I want to do bump photos each week and document how big both myself and baby are growing throughout. Thanks to Pinterest, there are plenty of bump photo's that I want to photograph, I think they make it all the more exciting and I want to do it with my first, as I probably won't have the time with the next.

4.Be more Organised...

After being made redundant on New Years Eve, 2015 has been the perfect definition of 'New Year, New Start' My boss did give us 3 weeks notice, however just before Christmas wasn't great timing for any of us and with work actually being manic at Christmas and our boss wanting us to stay until the end, it left us all in a bit in limbo about finding a job. All the jobs going at Christmas are mainly temp jobs in retail and finding one after, has meant we've all left the job with nowhere to go, add the addition of two of us being pregnant on top of that and we were all pretty down come NYE.

However, things happen for a reason and so I've decided to take this as an opportunity to work from home, both with my blogging and my nails. This means that I need to become super organised, this years job titles will become endless, Nail Technician, Entrepreneur? Beauty Blogger, House wife and soon to be Full Time Mum. I aim to set my work/blog/housework days into a timetable and create a routine in which they are all split sufficiently, in order for me to work to the best of my ability in all of them. I have worked since I was 15, never leaving a job, without having another lined up, I even worked 2 jobs alongside my degree, so I'm guessing being at home will prove difficult, but I'm ready for the challenge.

5. Up my Blogging Game...

Last year was a great year in terms of blogging for me, I may not have come as far as the majority of bloggers, however I learnt far more last year than I thought possible!

I bought a blog domain,
I bought a blog design,
I started a few fashion posts which I loved doing, but with Dan's shifts, sadly I can't keep right now,
I did my first giveaway for a milestone and even did a giveaway with another company,
I learnt how to use twitter AND reached over 1,000 followers,
I learnt to connect with brands and was kindly sent samples to review,
I improved my photography with the camera Dan so kindly bought me last Christmas
and so much more....

However towards the end of the year, my blogging reduced gradually and my followers stopped increasing, because I became so tired and poorly, which turns out was because I was pregnant, I had family members fall poorly and then I had the stress of moving house, so I just didn't have the energy or motivation to blog. Now I'm ready to get back at it but I have no internet until the end of January, so any posts I manage to complete, will be a miracle of some sort!

I do aim to get my blogging into a scheduled routine, introduce some new topics maybe, feature fresh content and really get back into it all. My blog is my baby and I'm proud of it and I'm not about to give it up any time soon, this year I want to reach new milestones and see just how far I can push myself! I'm ready to up my blogging game!

So there you have it, a New Years Resolutions/Big announcement/Where I have been post! I hope it hasn't been too rambly?! How has your life been lately? Have you made any New Years Resolutions?

Love
