Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Rose Petal

I tried Birchbox out last year, but it wasn't really for me at that time, I wasn't very into the high end brands that they were offering and therefore I cancelled my subscription favouring Glossybox.  However I recently renewed my subscription after Glossybox no longer met my needs, and I became more intrigued, probably hindered by blogging, by the high end brands that Birchbox are so well known for collaborating with.

Where Glossybox allow you to fill out surveys in order to earn points towards a free box, with Birchbox you can earn points to spend in the Birchbox shop, which I actually prefer, you can do this simply by filling in your surveys on your online account after you receive each box. Last year, although I didn't receive many boxes I did earn some some points and this time around I have continued to fill out the surveys, so when I realised I had reached £20 worth of points the week before my birthday, I decided to treat myself, so this is a present from me to... me!

I wanted to pick a product that I wouldn't necessarily be able to justify splurging on usually and I've never tried anything from Laura Mercier before. I love the sleek, elegant packaging that the product is encased in and it looks expensive, which is always good when the price reflects that too. I have to say I was a little disappointed in the size of the product, as it looks a lot bigger in pictures but just so you can gather an idea, if you haven't already seen it, it is relatively small compared to the palm of my hand!

The colour does look rather Barbie pink in the pan, however it doesn't transfer as scarily on the skin. I like that this powder blush is easily blendable, perfect if like me you tend to have a heavy hand, but is also buildable if your not quite so brave to apply it so swiftly. I think that it is perfect for spring/summer and will look great with a golden eye and coral lip.

At first I was unsure about this blusher, but I have definitely warmed to it, I have worn it everyday since it joined it my makeup bag, and it is actually fairly long wearing, I've had ten hours wear out of it today so far. I think that I could easily fall in love with the Laura Mercier collection and have already added a primer to my wishlist.

Have you tried this blusher or anything else by Laura Mercier? What are your thoughts on them?

What I Got For My Birthday...

When it comes to birthdays, I'm still a big kid! I get excited at least a week before and get giddy with excitement on my birthday-eve, however this year was a little calmer as Dan was on nights, so I spent the evening alone, watching the first few episodes of Girls with some chocolates and a cuppa! It was my birthday on Friday, and I finally turned 23, I was always one of the youngest in my year at school and I'm still one of the youngest among my friends now, so when they turn 23 before Christmas and my birthday's not till after, it feels like forever till I catch up with them!

I had a lovely day on Friday with the family at home, followed by drinks with family and friends in the evening at our local pub, I think it's fair to say I had one too many, and that Instagram picture I took, was taken drunk, I'm surprised it isn't blurry!

I was well and truly spoilt this year by my nearest and dearest and feel so so lucky to have these people around me! I always love seeing birthday posts and so I took to Twitter and Instagram to ask if you guys would like to see a 'What I Got For My Birthday' post and a few of you said yes, I just want to say I am in no way trying to brag with this post, I am simply sharing my appreciation with you about the lovely gifts I received.

So here's what I got...

My Mum and Dad got me the gorgeous Jo Malone Peony and Blush Suede perfume, this has a sweet, floral scent perfect for the typical girly girl like myself. I also received a sample of the Pomegranate Noir perfume which is more of a warm, spicy scent, my Mum and Dad both love that one and I've already added it to the wishlist!

I was lucky enough to also receive this Disaster Designs mirror from my Mum and Dad which I think looks so chic and I adore the packaging it came in, this will be perfect to pop in my handbag for those mid-day makeup touch-ups.

This year Dan didn't ask me what I wanted and decided to take matters into his own hands, I was so excited to see what he'd chosen and have to say I was so impressed with his choices. This Michael Kors watch is perfect for evenings out, it's not your typical style Michael Kors but I love the delicacy of it and the timeless design, meaning it won't outdate and can be worn for years to come, my only problem is it's a little big! I cried a little inside as I haven't been able to wear it yet, so I'll be taking it to the jewellers this week to have some links taken out.

Dan also chose this gorgeous Pandora ring, which I absolutely adore! I saw this collection when it was first launched and I loved it, but funnily enough I've never said anything about it Dan so I was surprised to receive this ring as it is so me!

My eldest brother has never been one for presents, he usually gives me money, so this year I was surprised when my mum passed me a Pandora bag, he's working away, and told me that he hadn't even asked her what I would like but actually picked this himself! I've not actually seen these Pandora letters but I thought this was a super thoughtful gift and was more than happy to have another charm to my collection!

If you read my blog regularly you'll know that I'm a big lover of Liz Earle and that their cleanser is my holy grail product, so I was really happy to receive this set from my Mama and Auntie. I haven't used any other Liz Earle products in a very long time, and it was only a few days ago that I mentioned to my mum about how I would like to try the tonic again after spritzing some of hers on. I've never tried the Eye Repair before so I'm excited to see how this works for me, it feels good to have these back in my life!

My youngest brother bought me two books that I have wanted for quite a while but not actually got round to purchasing, so I was really happy to see these from him! I downloaded the sample of 'The Body Book' by Cameron Diaz on my kindle and I couldn't put it down, it's such a positive book that makes you want to look after your body, I was tempted to buy it on my kindle but I read so much electronically that I decided I wanted it in book form rather than on my kindle.

I also wanted the 'I Quit Sugar' book by Sarah Wilson as I'm starting to find that my body is now starting to react badly to sugar, as well as just about every other food group. I have been doing my research about sugar and how to quit, and I've read really good reviews on this book so thought I would add it to my books to read before I finally put my plan into action.

I received this Zara blue and white striped jumper dress from my sister, which I adore! I have already worn it and it's so comfy! It's not quite a dress on me, more of a long top, but it looks perfect with leggings and sandals! Made of 100% organic cotton, the fabric allows your body to breathe meaning it will be perfect for spring!

Dan's Mum and Dad bought me this gorgeous mini satchel from River Island, which is the perfect size for when you don't quite fancy taking your kitchen sink out with you! It's just big enough to pop your phone, keys, cards, a bit of cash and maybe a lipstick or two in, making it ideal for the pub. They also gave me a Debenhams voucher, which went towards my last item.

My Best Friend Sophie bought me this gorgeous Ted Baker bag which I am so in love with! It's again just big enough to take a few bits with you, which is perfect as I don't have many small bags! It has a floral design down the middle panels with matching handles and is clear on the side panels, it also features the Ted Baker logo on the front and back. I had actually been eyeing up this design a couple of weeks back with my eye on both the handbags and the makeup bags, though I never mentioned this to Soph, so she must have read my mind! I think it's fair to say I am completely and utterly in love with this bag!

Me and Zoe from Zoe and The Beauty Blog have become quite close over the past six months or so. we chat almost daily, often on more than one social platform at the same time, we have a lot in common and our birthdays are just five days apart! I wanted to send Zoe a little something for her birthday and funnily enough she messaged me for my address as she said she wanted to send me a little something too, and she very kindly sent me this little package. I have to say I was so excited to receive this, they were all beautifully wrapped in blue tissue paper with pink ribbons and I was so happy to find these inside! The socks are really cute, I am obsessed with costume jewellery and I was so excited to receive my first Topshop Lipstick! I've always loved the look of Topshop makeup but have never got round to purchasing anything, but after using and loving this lipstick already, I don't think it will be long before I'm in there choosing my next item!

I've also recently become quite close to Claire who I work with, again we have a lot in common and when she started working with us, we just instantly clicked, she's so lovely and I wish we got to spend more time together, but she only works with me on a Saturday. This Thursday we did a late night, and to my surprise Claire popped in with a gift bag and card for me, which I thought was so lovely! In there was these three Soap and Glory miniatures and a box of chocolates, which didn't last long enough to be photographed! I love Soap and Glory and thought it was lovely of her to surprise me with these, I've tried The Daily Smooth and loved it, but I've yet to try Endless Glove and Scrub 'Em and Leave 'Em so I'm excited to try these out!

I received this gorgeous friend plaque from my friend Stacy, I love little keepsakes like this as they make you feel really special and are something that you will always have around, I have so many little things like this, I just need a house to put them all in now! She also gave me this Yankee Candle set, she often buys me candles as she knows just how much I love them! I like that this set has a variety of scents, as it gives you the chance to try them all before buying the big ones, I can't wait to try the lemon cream one! If that wasn't enough there was also this little Sanctuary trio in my bag, I'm obsessed with lotions and potions so I can't wait to use them!

Danny's brother and his girlfriend gave me these two little cookery books and a big bar of galaxy chocolate, do you think they've realised I have sweet tooth?!

My Mama bought me this statement ring from Dorothy Perkins and the Money Tin as little extras, sorry, these two didn't photograph well! I love this gold and pink ring, it will be perfect for dressing up outfits and is the perfect colour for spring. The money tin made me laugh as my family and friends always joke about my spending and this is perfect for me as I struggle to save, if you can't already tell!

Last but certainly not least I bought my first ever lipstick with the voucher from Dan's Mum and Dad and the money from his Nana and Grandad, it may have burnt a whole in my pocket, but if I didn't spend it quick I knew I would spend it on rubbish and regret it. Me and Dan popped into town today as I was on a mission to find the perfect lipstick and instantly knew which counter I was going to in Debenhams. It took me all of two minutes to pick, as this was the colour that stood out to me most and when the lady on the counter said it was one of their new lipsticks in their spring range I knew it had to be mine. This in the shade (34) Rose Asarine and so far I'm in heaven with this, but I won't say too much as I want to do a full review on it soon! Watch this space!

I also had a bunch of flowers delivered from work and a bunch of flowers from Dan's Mum, I've been loving having flowers in my bedroom just lately, I think I'll have to buy my own vases soon instead of pinching Dan's mums every time!

I am extremely grateful for all of my cards and presents and to everyone who made my day so special! I'm also extremely grateful for the birthday messaged I received on Instagram so if you sent me one and are reading this, Thank you so much, you made me smile!

Magnitone Pulsar Review and 7 Day Challenge ...

Magnitone Pulsar**

After seeing everyone rave about cleansing systems recently, I became very intrigued. I love skincare and think a good skincare routine is the most important part to a beauty regime, without a smooth canvas you cannot paint a clear picture and although I often forget to take my makeup off and am not as strict as I would like to be with my skincare routines, a new product, or tool in this case, often gives me encouragement to carry out a routine, so I took to do some research of my own on the subject.

Although there are so many systems out there, including the Clarisonic and the No7 version, the system that actually most appealed to me was in fact the Magnitone Pulsar, it seemed to have the most positive reviews and fell into the middle price bracket of them all, which I think is always your best bet and every review I read had suggested that it was definitely worth it's price tag. A couple of weeks ago I realised that I had actually forgot to put this on my birthday list, yes I still do those, and found myself rather disappointed that I wouldn't be getting one for my birthday, however on the same day this came to my realisation, I received an email asking whether I would like to review the product and the best part, my mum got the chance to try one out too** of course it only took me seconds to reply to them and within a couple of days my cleansing systems were with me! A* for Delivery!

About the Magnitone Pulsar...

The Magnitone Pulsar is a 100% waterproof cleansing system designed for everyday use on the face and body and uses advanced pulsed electromagnetic technology to cleanse your face, remove impurities and help to refresh, cleanse and stimulate the skin to help achieve that youthful glow. Magnitone promises that you will start seeing results in just seven days. I aimed to complete the 7 day challenge immediately, however I came down with a virus which left me unable to eat let alone carry out a skincare routine or review it any way possible so I didn't get round to starting my challenge until last week when I finally started to pick up a little!

The Magnitone Pulsar Kit...

- a charging cradle
- AC mains adaptor
- Active Clean Brush Head
- Body Cleanse Brush Head
- Magnitone Pulsar Handle
- 12 month warranty

Brush Heads...

The Pulsar brush comes with two heads, one for your face and one for your body, they are easily distinguishable as they are different shapes and colours, see pictures, there are also sensitive heads available for those with super sensitive skin.

Charging...

To charge the Pulsar, you place it back to front in the cradle, you will most likely insist that this is wrong as I too thought so, but trust me it's the right way round this way (see picture above). Before you use the Magnitone Pulsar for the first time, it is recommended that you charge it for at least 24 hours, so of course this was the first step I took, though it was hard to keep my hands off it for so long! There on after, you can give the Pulsar a full charge for 24 hours or a quick charge for just 75 minutes which will give you enough charge to use for that day, however it is recommended that if possible you charge the Pulsar for at least 12 hours to help maintain the battery life.

Modes...

The four modes:

Sensitive: This is for use on sensitive skin and sensitive areas such as the bikini line sfter hair removal which can help to reduce rashes or burns from the use of your razor.

PulseLift Massage: Using this mode can help to encourage better blood flow to your skin resulting in reduction of wrinkles, fine lines and helping to tone the skin.

Exfoliate: This mode is great to use on dry areas of skin such as legs, elbow and knees in order to prep for fake tan, just simply switch the mode to exfoliate and use on legs/arms for 20 seconds and elbows/knees for 30 seconds.

Deep Cleanse: This is the mode I usually opt for during both my facial and body routine as I feel it gives me a better cleanse all round.

My Experience:

As I wanted to ensure any results I received were entirely down to the Magnitone Pulsar, I ensured that I didn't change any part of my usual skincare routine, including the products I use. Magnitone recommend that you use the Pulsar for just one minute. twice a day for the first 3 days, which can then be increased to two minutes after.

When using the Pulsar on my face, I first remove my makeup with the Garnier micellar water, I then cleanse my face manually with my Liz Earle cleanser, followed by a sensitive cleanse with the Liz Earle Cleanser and the Magnitone pulsar.

I also incorporate the Pulsar into my body routine and use it to focus on dry areas such as my knees and elbows. I also get severe dry patches on the tops of my feet, which I have been using the Pulsar on to try and reduce the dryness and so far they have smoothed out so much! I'm so happy as they actually make me feel self conscious in summer and if after just a week I they have become this soft, I can't wait to see the results come summer!

The first time I used the Pulsar, I found it to be a very strange sensation on the skin, my face was a little sensitive and was quite red afterwards, this does die down after a few uses, so I ensured that I used the sensitive setting for the first couple of days. After a couple of days I did break out, however this isn't unusual for me and could actually have been down to my hormones at that time, it has now been seven days since I started using the Pulsar and I have to say I am amazed with the results! First of all the difference between a manual cleanse and a cleanse with the Pulsar is eye opening! I have always cleansed manually and once my cloth is clean, I assume that my skin is also clean, however when I follow with Pulsar, the brush head is shockingly stained with the remaining makeup that must be deep in my pores, which probably explains my breakouts. My face is also a lot clearer, my redness has dramatically reduced and my skin feels so much smoother and softer, I've even had compliments from clients at work about how clear they think my skin is, which is amazing for me! I cannot wait to see my skin in a couple of months time!

My mum will be receiving her Magnitone Pulsar on Mother's Day, so I will post about her review when she has completed her 7 day challenge.

The Magnitone Pulsar is available from Boots, Amazon, HQ Hair, Look Fantastic, Beauty Expert, The Hut, Superdrug and Current Body.

Have you tired the Magnitone Pulsar yet? What do you think?

Love

** Although I got a Magnitone Pulsar for myself and my mum at a heavily discounted price, I did pay for both, and my reviews are entirely my own.

Sheer Cover Studio #makeitmineral Challenge

When the opportunity to take the #makeitmineral challenge with Sheer Cover Studio arose, I couldn't wait to get stuck in! I was challenged by Ellie from Sparkle Pr to replace all of my everyday makeup for 7 days and only use the Sheer Cover Studio products provided, with the exception of eyebrow palettes/pencils and lip products, as the company do not sell these, in order to see if I would become a mineral makeup convert.

I've heard good reviews about Sheer Cover Studio in the past and my mum's friend swears by it, so I was extremely excited to see if it lived up to it's name! I have to admit at first I just couldn't get to grips with the products, I couldn't quite put my finger on why, but I just didn't get on with the products, there was no problem with them, they did what they were intended to do, but I didn't enjoy using them, little did I know how much they would grow on me...

Conceal & Brighten Trio - Medium/Tan - Concealer 3g - Brightener 0.7g

After thoroughly cleansing and moisturising, concealing and highlighting are the first steps within the set. There are two colours of concealer that you can mix together to create a colour that best suits your skin tone to conceal. I also found that I could use the lighter colour underneath my eyes, to brighten and reduce any eye bags, whilst using the darker colour to contour and using the highlighter on my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose to highlight. I found that dabbing the concealer and highlighter onto the skin was the best method as the warmth of your fingers helps to melt the product in order to blend in to your skin with ease.

Perfect Shade Mineral Foundation - Medium - 4g - SPF15

I've never been too interested in mineral foundations as I've never thought them to be great coverage for skin like mine which is prone to spots, however having an oily T-zone means that I always rely on powders to keep shine at bay. This mineral powder foundation promises big things, including fantastic coverage which will not only cover spots but also birth marks and pigmentation of the skin. I find that this foundation is super quick and easy to apply, you simply tap the powder into the lid and then apply with the foundation brush provided. I dab the powder on, like you would a regular powder, but then i go back over with a little more product and swirl it into the skin in circular motions to ensure that it gets into all the creases.

The first time i applied this foundation I thought it was too yellow for my skin tone and was immediately disappointed, however I noticed later on in the day that this seemed to have settled and I actually had comments of how natural my makeup looked, from both family and work colleagues. Intrigued by this I later checked out the leaflet provided with my kit once again, and realised that the foundation has something called Trueshade Technonolgy which enables the powder to adapt to not only the colour of your skin but lighting conditions too, which means you will have flawless skin under any light.

Sun Kissed Bronzing Minerals - 4.5g

I love that the bronzing minerals consist of three waves of colour, which allow you to use them altogether or separately. For a daytime look I will swirl them all together with the bronzing brush provided and apply them to my cheek as I would apply blusher. For n evening look I will use the darkest colour to contour, the lightest colour to highlight and then swirl them together to use on the apples of my cheeks.

I also doubled up and used this as an eyeshadow, using the middle colour swept all over the lid, the darkest colour blended into the crease and the lightest colour to highlight the inner corners of my eyes, under my brow bone and the middle of the lid.

Lengthening Mascara - Black - 8.5ml & Lash Extending Fibers - 0.5g

I won't lie, the first time I used this duo, I hated it, I had never used lash fibers before and I ended up with them in my eye, not advisable! However I attempted them again the next day and realised that by applying one coat of mascara, 1 coat of lash fibres, to the ends only, not root to tip as I had first thought, and another 1-2 layers of mascara, depending on the look you desired, that I could create natural looking long lashes without the use of false lashes. The only thing this mascara doesn't do is thicken the lashes, however I tend to use this mascara for day so I don't mind this aspect.

As I was asked to be innovative with this kit, I decided to double up with the mascara by also using it as an eyeliner. I simply dabbed the wand on the back of my hand to distribute the product and then placed a small angled brush into the product and created a winged line along the bottom of my eyelid, as you would your usual eyeliner. I have to say although I found out this product does not work well on the waterline, I found out the hard way, this doesn't budge whilst on the eyelid. It was easy to use, albeit you have to work quickly with it, and it stays put until you remove it, which for a girl like me who is constantly touching my face and rubbing my eyes, is fantastic.

Concealer, Foundation and Bronzing Brushes

I love that this kit comes with a set of brushes as it makes it simple for those who don't own makeup brushes and/or are unfamiliar with the correct brushes to use with products, I've recently come to the realisation that not everybody owns/uses makeup brushes. These brushes are a little scratchy on the skin and do shed hair occasionally, however these are a free gift worth over £50 that are included in the set as an added bonus, so taking that into consideration I think these brushes are pretty fab! I love how sleek they look,

Here are the results:

Everyday...

Evening...

Contour...

As much as I hate to put up pictures of my naked face, I have to say I think these pictures show the effects of the Sheer Cover makeup very well. I have a very uneven skin tone with quite a bit of pigmentation and plenty of spot scars from my teenage years, all of which I hate, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how well the Sheer Cover makeup covered these and made my skin look quite flawless. I have purposely not edited any of these photos so that you could see the true results, I've not even edited the lighting, and I love to brighten my photos up!

I finished my 7 day challenge last Sunday, however I decided not to put my review up straight away, as I wanted to see how I felt and reacted when going back to my usual makeup routine. I have to say that after just a few days I found myself reaching for the Sheer Cover kit, as it is just so quick and simple, and lets face it, who wouldn't rather have that extra time in bed in a morning?

What I really like about this makeup is that you don't feel like your wearing any, I hate to feel cakey makeup on my skin, but this is light and soft and allows your skin to breathe. I wouldn't recommend it for people with extremely dry skin as I feel that the product is fairly dry and may stick to any dry areas, however I have quite oily skin, with the odd dry patch so it works quite well for me. I do have to carry my powder with me, as my skin is extremely oily at the moment and it needs the occasional touch up, but this seems to be the case with anything right now.

I adore this make up, however I think deep down I'm too beauty obsessed with make up to convert to mineral makeup full time, but for everyday make up to wear to work, I think it's fair to say I'm hooked!

The Sheer Cover Studio Introductory Kit £29.95 is available in four shades - Light, medium, Tan and Dark from www.sheercover.co.uk

Have you tried Sheer Cover yet? What do you think to it?

Sale Haul

Whilst waiting for my sister to finish work last week, I popped into New Look with no intentions of buying anything, just browsing to pass time. However I didn't realise they had a sale on or I would have stayed well clear! Here's what I picked up...

The first thing I spotted was this cream knitted jumper, which is super cosy and perfect for lounging around in. I'm forever buying 'dressy clothes' but have nowhere to wear them and my wardrobe is really lacking in 'everyday clothes' so I picked this up to wear on my days off paired with leggings or jeans.

I then spotted this gorgeous two-in-one dress, I have seen a couple in Topshop in this style that I absolutely loved but just couldn't justify spending the money on, so when I found this in the normal section, non-sale, with £10 off making it £9.99 I couldn't resist, online it's a penny more. The picture really doesn't do it enough justice, it has a gorgeous black and white geo print top half which is super soft and a plain black bottom half which is a little sheer so I pair it with thick tights or leggings.

Then I spotted this gorgeous monochrome top, which will look perfect with high waisted leggings or tucked into a high waisted skirt. It's described as t-shirt online but It's more like shirt material so it can be dressed up or down.

Dress Was £65 now £15 Topshop (no longer available online)

I then headed into to Topshop to have a sneak peak at the sale racks and found this gorgeous dress from the Topshop Exclusive Collection. I saw it weeks ago and loved it, but had nowhere to wear it so passed up the opportunity, however this time around I was looking for a dress to wear out for my friends birthday and at just £15 I thought why not. It's so pretty and such a unique shape, it is something that I think will stay a classic in my wardrobe for a long time to come and from £65 down to £15 and being the last one on the rail, I knew I couldn't leave it this time around.

Wedges £10 Primark

The last place I headed to was Primark and I picked up these Wedges for just £10 which is such a bargain, with me being so tall, I hate wearing heels, especially because me and Dan are the same height, give or take half an inch. Therefore when I wear heels I'm always taller than him, so I don't have much practice walking in heels, and it's not easy to master, at least not to me. So a wedge of this height is perfect for me, as although I'll still be taller than Dan, they won't make me half a foot taller than him, and I can walk in them! Bonus! Primark also have them in a nude colour which are amazing, and I think I will go back and purchase them some time soon but for now I needed the black pair in my life.

So there's my mini haul, I know the wedges weren't in the sale but I thought I'd throw them in anyway! Have you been shopping recently? What did you buy?
