My First MAC Quad...

MAC eye shadows are possibly the most loved eye shadows to circle the blogger sphere and since falling in love with All That Glitters on a trip to London last year, I've been dying to invest in some more. Of course this meant that I put eye shadows and a quad palette on my Christmas list and Santa was extremely kind to me! I received the quad, Satin Taupe, Nylon and Jest on Christmas Day and got far too excited about putting them together, which had to be done mid present-opening of course.

I then mentioned in my What I Got For Christmas post that I was looking for an eyeshadow to complete my quad, and Zoe from Zoe Lou and The Beauty Blog kindly recommended Naked Lunch, I trust her advice and therefore when I headed over to the city centre last week, I popped into the MAC shop and finally purchased it! I could not be happier with my first quad, I decided to keep it quite neutral as I can't quite justify spending the money on an eyeshadow I may or may not like but neutrals suit everyone.

In daylight, no filter or editing.

I've been wearing these on a daily basis, with naked lunch all over the lid, jest in the crease and nylon in my inner corners. Then I simply replace jest with Satin Taupe in the crease for an evening look.

I love that these eye shadows apply so well, blend just as easily and last all day, on your eyes and in the pan.

Do you own any MAC eye shadows? Which ones are your favourite?

Marks and Spencer's Valentines Gift Ideas...

I'm a hopeless romantic at heart and I just love anything to do with 'LOVE'

I love the word, the meaning of the word and how it can change a situation for the better just by simply existing. So of course I love, love, love Valentines day!

I think that come Valentines Day, especially after 8 years, it becomes quite hard to know what to buy one another, other than the cliched chocolates, alcohol and underwear. There are so many gifts available out there but the gifts I love the most are unique gifts like these ones from Marks and Spencer's, I spotted these on my lunch this week and I loved them so much I thought I would create a post with them in so that I could share them with you guys and give you a little inspiration, if you need it that is...

I just think these are such personal and sweet little gifts. and I would love to receive any or all of them this Valentines day and yes I will be directing Dan towards this page ;)

I know this isn't the usual beauty post, but I hope you enjoyed it and found a little inspiration :)

Birchbox Tiny Tweaks...

After Zoe from zoe lou and the beauty blog, go check her blog out if you haven't already, asked me if I'd heard the spoiler from Birchbox, I got super excited to find out that every Birchbox subscriber would receive Benefit's POREfessional this month. I was really hoping, fingers and all toes crossed, that I would also receive a rodial sample, no I can't contain myself when it comes to the spoilers, however unfortunately I wasn't so lucky to receive this too.

I got way too excited about this month's box and even had my mum bring it to me at work, because my willpower is non-existant, my mum loves to see my box too, so we went to a local cafe and opened it over lunch, God knows what the staff thought.

This month's box is based on making 'tiny tweaks' to make 2014 a better year, I love this concept and the 'tiny tweaks' booklet which gives 30 'Birchbox approved' tiny tweaks for everyone to achieve daily together to make this year a success. I think the products fit in perfectly with the theme and I am excited to have discoved some new brands this year already!
Lavera Basis Sensitive Handcream £4·45

I wasn't too excited to see hand cream in my box this month as I have enough tubes of hand cream to rival Loccitane right now, so I will probably pass this on to a family member instead.
Premae Anatomy Nutrients Instant Renewal Body Oil £9·50

The Premae Body Oil excited me as I've received a product of theirs in a previous beauty box and I loved it! I love that they pride themselves on their products being vegan and cruelty free as I have been looking more into 'green beauty' recently. This oil aims to tone and firm the body whilst leaving skin soft and smooth. I have yet to try the oil properly, however I was shocked upon testing it, to realise that it has no scent, I find this strange for a body oil and this is my one of my biggest persuasions when it comes to beauty products. That being said, I'm excited to try it out as soon as I've used up my current body oil, I will update you once I've tried it out. To be continued...

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer £27·50

Philip Kinsley Elasticizer is one of those must try products and I'm pretty sure I got a slightly larger sample in a magazine last year, having never got round to using it or being able to find it, I am pretty excited to see if it really does make my hair soft and bouncy like they say it should!

Benefit The POREfessional £24·50

Benefit POREfessional, the product they claim helps to avoid the oily t-zone creeping through or make up sliding off come PORE o'clock (4 o'clock). With the latest hype surrounding this product, I was more than happy to receive this in my box this month as I've not yet had the pleasure of trying it out. This flesh coloured foundation base glides over skin with a silky smooth texture and so far I've been loving it!

ITSU Miso Soup £2·25 (for 3 sachets)

I'm not sure why beauty boxes have recently started including food samples, tea bags I'm ok with, as long as they're herbal, I guess we are what we eat and that beauty comes from within but I don't remember signing up to receive food. Anyway... I have always wanted to try miso soup but the two days before I received my Birchbox I actually tried it at Wagamamas, and I hate to say I don't like it, I wish I did because it's super healthy but it most certainly didn't tickle my taste buds! I will try this one, simply because I have it and it's a different brand, if I change my mind, i'll update you.

Vasanti Detox Nutrient-Rich Purifying Facial Cleanser £18

The Vasanti Detox Cleanser really intrigued me, as it is labelled a 'purifying cleanser' and is said to remove everyday impurities. I've only used this product once but so far, so good. This cleanser is really creamy, and it smells pretty nice too, it's a familiar smell that I can't wuite put my finger on. This cleanser lather up well, doesn't sting eyes!! the main thing I look for in a cleanser! and it leaves skin feeling soft and fresh.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this month's Birchbox, a little dissapointed I didn't recieve a Rodial sample, have I said that yet?! but it's still worth the money, in my opinion.

Are you subscribed to Birchbox? What did you get in your box this month?

The Best of Beauty 2013...

Although I've pretty much always been a skincare and makeup obsessive, at least I thought I was, it wasn't until last year that I really ventured out into the beauty world and tried new products, thanks to beauty blogging. I've always been a girl with a stash of products, but brand wise I hadn't expanded much further than Nivea skincare and Rimmel makeup. So this year has brought me lots of new goodies and I'm still learning how to test them out. It was pretty hard to choose, so I limited it to ten products and four brushes. Here's what made the cut for my Best of Beauty 2013...

Skincare...

I don't think there's a beauty blogger out there that hasn't tried this product, however this is actually an oldie for me. My mum discovered Liz Earle around 18 years ago after seeing an article in a magazine and she bought me my first starter kit for Christmas when I was 15. I used it, but being young, I didn't have my own money and therefore I didn't repurchase it, I did however sneak my mums whenever I could get away with it. It wasn't until the beginning of 2013 that I actually did repurchase it and it now takes pride in my bathroom on a permanent basis.

This is without a doubt the best cleanser I have ever used, it removes makeup with ease, leaves your skin smelling and feeling amazing and it helps to keep control of my spots too. This is a product that has been, and will continue to be repurchased by myself and my family members, even my mama loves it too!

After seeing the Superfacialist range by Una Brennan cropping up on blogs last year, I decided to check it out for myself and the Rose Hydrate Moisture Mask made it's way home with me first. This mask smells so good and is amazingly hydrating. After cleansing, I apply this mask liberally all over my face and neck whilst I take a relaxing bath and read a magazine, as it sinks in and works it's magic! I then remove this with a muslin cloth and warm water, rinsing in between, leaving my skin smelling fantastic, looking healthier, more hydrated and feeling super soft! It's actually back on my payday list to repurchase as I've just ran out :(

After the hype surrounding the ever famous Bioderma, I really wanted to try a micellar solution, of course, if everyone else has the latest product on the market, I want it too! However when Bioderma first came onto the beauty blogging scene, it wasn't easy to get hold of and it's not particularly cheap either. So when this more affordable, readily available version by L'oreal came out, I needed to know what it did. I have to say I absolutely love this product and this is the fifth time I've repurchased it. I use this as a pre-cleanse to remove my makeup before I cleanse, and it just makes it so much easier, as this removes makeup with such ease! Got a tough to remove mascara? just pour this onto a cotton pad, hold against the eyelashes for 5-10 seconds, swipe, and repeat if necessary. I'm also a very lazy person and although I try to remove my makeup before bed, I'm not always a good girl and this just makes it a whole lot easier than cleansing on those lazy days. It's got to be better than face wipes, right?

Makeup Brushes...

I love the Real Techniques brushes as they're so gentle on the skin, there is no scratching, they make blending super easy and they do not shed whatsoever. They are easy to clean, and go back to their original shape once dry, without having do a thing. I seriously love these brushes and can't wait to get my hands on the new ones!

The expert face brush is very similar to the buffing brush, however it's a little smaller and slightly denser. I like to switch between the two, depending on the effect I want to achieve, but I mostly find myself with the expert face brush, as it helps to achieve a flawless base.

The blusher brush is perfect for blusher, of course, however it's great for bronzer too. I was a little scared to use it at first as it's a lot bigger than any blusher brush I've used before, but it doesn't seem quite as big when your using it and applies product perfectly.

The brow brush is my favourite, It works perfectly with my HD brow palette and the angled shape makes it perfect for applying the finely milled powder to create a strong brow.

This brush is thee perfect eyeliner brush! I am not the best at winged eyeliner, but with this brush I can actually achieve this look. I just wish that they sold these separately as mine is a little overused and I haven't taken as much care of it as I should have, so it could do with replacing shortly.

Palettes...

Since the HD Brow hype first started I've always wanted to try this palette, and thanks to Latest in Beauty and Glamour, I finally got round to trying it out when I ordered their amazing collaboration box. I have not put this down since I opened it, I have used it every single day and I don't think anything could ever replace it! I use the lighter of the brown shades with my Real Techniques Brow Brush to create my signature brow.

This was one of those products that I ummed and ahhed about for a while, but I am so glad that I finally bit the bullet and bought it. I love how I have three products in one place, which makes it perfect for travelling, and takes up less space in my makeup bag. Usually in palettes, there is usually at least one part that you may not particularly like as much as the others but I love all three of these and they are all now part of my daily makeup routine.

Pots...

I wanted to name this section powders but my poor little eyeliner would have had to take a seat on it's own, so I decided to throw it in here and name it pots... creative, not.

I didn't realise how much I liked this powder until I tried a different one after running out, and boots enticing me with their offers. I then realised how much I missed this powder and had to repurchase it. This is a fine, lightweight translucent powder that leaves the skin looking radiant and best of all, it has an amazing scent! I'm hooked!

This is the prettiest pink blush I have ever owned! Pink Swoon gives a gorgeous natural pink flush to the cheeks and I love that it's buildable yet blends easily, because if like me, you sometimes go a little too overboard, there's no need to take it all off. I like to use this for nights out or when I'm feeling a little rough and need a little pick me up.

Who doesn't love All That Glitters? If you don't have it, you need to a least swatch it :) I've become a litlle obsessed with Mac eyeshadows at the moment and have found myself reaching for this one on a daily basis, as it's easy to sweep all over the lid for a effortless yet glam look.

L'oreal Superliner Gel Intenza in Pure Black £9.99 Superdrug

This is without a doubt the best thing I discovered in 2013! This eyeliner is perfect for people like me, who do not have a steady hand as the brush makes it easy to apply. The eyeliner is quite wet, so I do have to keep my eyes closed for a few minutes after application to avoid smudging it, as my eyelids are quite hooded, if that makes sense? but that doesn't bother me too much because once it's dried, the staying power is incredible, it stays on from the second I put on until the second I take it off! What more could you ask for?!

So there you have it, my Best of Beauty 2013, all of these product are used in my current makeup and skincare routines and they will all be pretty hard to beat, I'm still on the lookout for the perfect foundation though, so that's my aim for 2014!

What's in your top beauty favorites for 2013?

Winter Warmers and Weekend Wonders #4

Hiya lovelies!

I hope you've all had an amazing weekend!

With work being quiet at the moment due to the time of year we've set up a system in which we each in turn get a Saturday off and this week was my Saturday off, meaning I had a three day weekend :) With Dan being off too we had quite a productive weekend :)

Friday...

Friday night we went to my Aunties fortieth birthday party, which was great, we had a few drinks and a catch up with some long lost relatives, as you seem to do at parties, it was great to spend time with my family, as I think we always seem to let life get in the way and don't see each other often enough!

Saturday...

Saturday we started with a lie in, weekend duty of course, amongst jobs we also popped to Matalan as Dan needed some new work trousers, big mistake, as I spotted their sale section, of course and ended up with an armful by the time Dan found me, I did end up deciding that I didn't need it all and just settled on three items. A coat, skirt and tracksuit top, which I apologize for not getting chance to photograph.

Textured Oversized Coat was £40 now £10 Matalan & Lurex Pencil Skirt was £14 now £3.50 Matalan

These were both just too much of a bargain to leave! Oversized coats are big right now and I've been looking for a berry coloured one for a while, I actually ordered one from Asos but it was more of an oversized chunky cardigan than a coat so I ended up sending it back. This fits great, is really warm and will update my winter wardrobe perfectly and I can't believe it was just £10! As for the skirt, I really didn't need another but £3.50? I spend that on magazines and this skirt will look perfect with a cami and blazer for an evening out or with a chunky jumper and boots for day. I love the sparkle throughout it and the colour will go with anything.

Sunday...

Sunday morning me and Dan got up early to go for a run, we decided to take Archie too, not the brightest idea as he runs too fast for me and I look like he's taking me for a walk; arms over stretched, Archie ten steps in front of me, and me trying to keep my legs from going under me, you get the jist! I am also very ashamed to admit I haven't ran in over a year and I barely managed a yard before I had to stop, the majority of the 1.52 miles I attempted, I track it with run keeper thanks to the lovely Alice from ww.brighttowngirl.blogspot.co.uk who gave me the idea, was spent either jogging or fast paced walking, I can't handle the running just yet.

Monday...

Monday we had to take Dan's brother back to University in Lincoln as his poor brum brum literally blew up on Friday, so we took advantage of the trip and turned it into a little day out, I'm loving our mini outings at the moment!

After nosying at Adam's uni house, we headed into Lincoln central, first stop was Wagamamas which is amazing, if you haven't been before, you should! You sit on a bench, eat with chopsticks, you can ask for cutlery, and your food is made fresh to order in the open kitchen, it's a great experience! The one in Lincoln is also built over the lake and we got a window seat, which looked so pretty with the sun being out, I tried to take pictures from our seats but the sun was too bright.

I took this one when we got outside Wagamamas...

For starters we had Pulled Pork Gyoza, which was mouth-wateringly tasty, its a dish of pulled pork wrapped in dumplings but taste more like pancakes, with a side of what was supposed to be spicy sauce but I swear it was balsamic vinegar! Either way it was still so good! We then both had the Yasai Cha Han which is a giant bowl of stir fried rice, fried egg, spring onions, mushrooms, mange tout, sweetcorn and tofu, Dan had chicken and prawn, it also comes with a side of Miso soup and pickles. It was so good, but there was so much, I actually gave up and left a little, but the best part for me and the reason why I was most excited, was that they serve fresh juices! I love a fresh juice and I chose the raw juice, which has carrot, cucumber, tomato, orange and apple juice in, I asked for it in a take-out cup to carry around whilst shopping, it tasted amazing and made me feel amazing too!

We then headed off shopping for a couple of hours, here's what I bought...

Paperchase

Woodland Desk Pad Sticky Notes £8

Damask Butterfly Mechanical Pen £2

With my new mission to be organised this year, I originally made an organiser in the style of this one on word and have been using it for the past week, but when I saw this one in Paperchase I really loved it and figured by the time I'd paid to print mine out for the 52 weeks of the year, I might as well buy this one :) is that justified? I also wanted a new pen to go with it, and thought that the colours on this one matched perfectly!

Primark

Gold Chain - £3 & Watch - £4

I love both of these items as they both look classic but stylish and will update any outfit, the watch is actually from the men's section.

Cream Purse £5

I was desperate for a new purse, my old one was falling apart and I love that this cream one has plenty of sections for cards. I also love the clasp fastening on the back section, meaning there is plenty of room for all that change. I just wish it didn't have Atmosphere plastered across the front! Not cool Primarni!

Checked Pajama Bottoms £6 and Pink Vest £2

I've wanted a pair of checked pajama bottom since tartan made it's comback, but I haven't found a pair I've liked enough to buy. I love these ones from Primark as they're in pastel colours, which I'm a big lover of,  and there amazingly soft and comfy! The top is just a vest from the basic everyday clothing section as I didn't like the pajama tops that were with the bottoms, but boy did it take a while to find a colour that matched.

And the perfect end to our weekend as always, we had a Costa to drive home with, Black Forest Hot Cholcoate with Soya and she remembered the cherry sauce, what a beaut!

As you can see, we've had a pretty hectic weekend but I've really enjoyed it! It's made a lovely change from the usual weekends spent at work and then watching football when home, not my choice by the way...

What did you get up to on your weekend?

Birchbox December - Winter Wonderland

If you read my blog regularly you'll know that I started to get a little bored of my Glossybox over the last few months, so I finally decided to cancel my subscription and sign back up to Birchbox. I had Birchbox back in March and although I liked it, at the time I preferred Glossybox as I'd heard of all the brands, but I've come to the realisation that I can buy brands I know about whenever I like and that I want to discover more new products, so Birchbox is right for me, right now.

You can subscribe to Birchbox for £10 plus £2.95 P&P per month at their website here.

With the next one due in the next fortnight, I thought it was time I got this post up and showed you what I got...

Number 4 Non-Aerosol Hairspray 43ml

Bee Kind Body Lotion 30ml

Delarom Acquaconfort Mask 15ml

Nail Rock in Sequin Green

Alima Pure Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow in Paris

Twistband Hair Tie

I have to admit I got way too many products for Christmas and therefore I haven't got round to trying out either the Number 4 hairspray or the Delarom Face mask just yet, but I'm excited to try them out as they both look like amazing products!

I wasn't too thrilled with the nail rock sequins, there is no fault with the product, I'm just not a sequin fan when it comes to nails. I did try it out, to give it the benefit of the doubt, but the sequins are far too chunky in my opinion to cover a whole nail in them. I had a play around and decided that I prefer to use them to create designs with, so they won't go to waste after all.

I absolutely love the Beekind body lotion, it has the most gorgeous citrus scent that lingers all day and the product sinks in really quickly as well as leaving your body feeling super smooth throughout the day. I also think it's cute that a portion of the proceeds support honey bee and sustainable pollination research, yay for bees.

The Twistband hair ties are an amazing concept and I really enjoyed using mine for the first few times, however unfortunately my hair is super thick and ended up stretching the hair band completely, I'm interested to see what other ties they may bring out though and I think the message they come with is a sweet little touch.

The Alima Pure mineral eyeshadow in Paris is such a gorgeous product. I love everything from the cute little bird printed packaging to the iridescence of the glitter. I love that it's a mineral eyeshadow and it's super easy to use, with great pigmentation and great staying power. I've been using this on a daily basis, gently patting this all over my lid and then gently blending a slightly darker shadow into my crease, for a subtle everyday smokey eye.

I'm so glad I subscribed to Birchbox again, the packaging is so adorable and I love discovering new products every month that are of great quality!

Have you signed up to Birchbox yet? What do you think?
